CLEWISTON, Fla. — Janice June Vertommen passed away Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, after a long illness. For the past 10 years, she resided with her caring daughter Kari.
Jan was born April 9, 1941, in Glendive, Mont., to James Sharp and June Schulze. She was raised in Billings by her mother and stepfather, Pius Geiger, and graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1959.
She was a member of the LOPES (Ladies of Pahokee Elks) and the Hospital Auxiliary, Pahokee Garden club and loved to play bingo.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, brother Pius Geiger and her first husband, Earl Niesen and late husband Edward H. Vertommen.
The survivors include three children, Sherri (Hugh) Magee, Kari (Tony) Maynor, Earl ( Vonnie) Vertommen; four grandchildren, Casey Bilyou, Jessica Tallent, Earl ( Samantha) Vertommen II and Tiffany Tallent, two2 great-grandchildren, Natallie Bilyou and Abbigale Vertommen; two sisters, Gayle ( Harvey) Young, Penny (Patty) Fisher; and sister-in-law Marta Geiger, five nieces and one nephew.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 1200 East Main St, Pahokee. Father John Mericantonte officiated. Interment followed at Port Mayaca Cemetery in Canal Point.
Pall bearers were Dennis Maynor, Keith Maynor, Billy Brock, Asa Godsey, Jimmy Weiss and Joey Lopez.
