Jean Alice Gladys (Clarke) Embley was born in London to Hilda (Sharpe) and Christopher Clarke, She had one older brother, also Christopher Clarke. She survived a childhood besieged by WWII and even survived scarlet fever. Jean graduated from Hereford College with a degree in teaching. She met the love of her life, Maurice Embley, and they married in 1954. In 1956 they emigrated to America where they had two children, Michael and Martine. Jean loved her family, friends and dogs. When she became unable to go to church, her friends at First Presbyterian sent her endless cards of encouragement. She kept them all and taped them to the walls of her bedroom, and eventually you could no longer see the closet doors for all the cards. Special thanks as well to her caregiver, Tina. They gave her great comfort. Jean is survived by her daughter, Martine (Doug) Felt and her daughter-in-law, Erika Anderson Embley.
