LAUREL — Jeffrey Paul Melcher, 46, of Laurel, died Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, doing what he loved, playing ball with his son in the back yard.
Jeffrey Paul Melcher was born Sept. 24, 1964, in Jacksonville, Fla., to Patrick E. (Fritz) and Gail Melcher.
Being a military brat, he attended elementary schools across the USA. Jeffrey's high school years were at Laurel High School where he graduated in 1982. The one place that he loved was his Uncle Donald's and Aunt Doris's Elk Ranch in North Dakota. He spent high school summers there and never forgot how happy he felt being a part of that ranch. Following high school, he worked out of state and then entered the Army in 1987. He spent time in Korea and left the Army in 1990, returning to the Los Angeles area where he gained employment and, through his job, met and married Gladys Gutierrez in 1996. He and Gladys have three children: Dominique, Jefferson, and Franchesca. The family moved from California to Laurel and then to Albuquerque, N.M., where Jeff worked at various jobs.
Jeff was a fun loving guy who loved pranks. Some say he was funny and could break the ice. He was a man of compassion who would give you whatever he owned.
Jeffrey is survived by his wife, three children, his mother and father, all of Laurel, a brother, Scott of Woodbine, Md., a sister, April of Rangoon, Myanmar, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He will be missed.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Friday, April 29, at 1 p.m. Inurnment will be in the Yellowstone County Veterans Cemetery with military honors. Cremation has taken place and memorials may be sent to charities of your choice.
