Judy Rice, 61, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 4, 2008, at home, from long term cancer.
She was born to George and Harriet Johnstone in Thermopolis, Wyo., on Sept. 6, 1947. She graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1966, and attended and graduated from Dallas Fashion and Merchandising College in 1968. She worked for Husky Oil Company until 1984, when she moved to Holland. On April 26, 1985, Judy was united in marriage to Jim Rice in Holland. They returned to the States and lived in Colorado and Montana. She was active in community events: Symphony Associates, Head Start and the ABT Gala of 1998 when the Commodores entertained her. She loved to travel and in those travels, she went to Scotland to discover and learn about her ancestry.
Her passion was fashion. She filled several homes with her decorating skills and several closets with fashion.
Her cancer had numerous chemo trials at MD Anderson in Houston for two years, operations in Thermopolis, Billings and in Houston. Judy endured various chemo treatments for the past two years with the help of Dr. Purcell and the caring staff at Billings Clinic. She continued to battle the effects of the disease until the last breath. This beautiful woman was an inspiration to many. She was admired for her courage and perseverance in battling the cancer for so long.
Judy was a very sociable, charming lady. She loved to help others in any way she could. She called her friends often and gave them lots of good advice on projects.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents. Survivors are her husband Jim; her brother George, his wife Linda, and their children and grandchildren.
Cremation is planned and memorial services will be held in Billings at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Dahl Funeral Chapel and in Thermopolis at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the First Baptist Church, with interment of ashes in the Riverside Cemetery.
