Lester Wilson, 79, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009. He had been living at the Billings Health & Rehabilitation Center since May. “Papa Bear,” as the CNAs and other caregivers called him, is at peace now. He really loved his caregivers.
Lester was born on April 12, 1930, in Pompeys Pillar, to Jennie (Schipp) and Orvel Wilson. His family farmed north of Pompeys Pillar.
At a young age, Lester began his new venture on his own. He worked at Pierce Packing in Billings and also had a newspaper route. In 1946, he traveled to Wyoming and worked for Herb Kagie on a pulling unit in the Edgerton and Midwest area.
Lester then met the love of his life, Charlotte Adams. They were married on July 13, 1951, in Casper, Wyo. To this union, four children were born: Connie, Bonnie, Coleen and Thomas.
For the remainder of his working years, Lester was employed by Amoco Oil. He retired in 1986 after working for them for 30 years. The last three years of those were spent living in Gabon, Africa, working on an offshore platform rig. Lester and Charlotte enjoyed the experience of living and working there. They met many friends who also worked for Amoco.
Upon Lester’s retirement, he and Charlotte “Char” then settled in Billings.
Family and friends have enjoyed many years of Lester and Charlotte’s undying “open arm” hospitality.
Lester was preceded in death by his sisters, Pansy Crandall and Beaulah Fischer; twin brother, Chester; and his oldest brother, Jasper.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Char; daughter Connie (Ken) Bergeron of Sidney; daughter Bonnie (Rick) Tuttle of Sidney; daughter Coleen (Michael) DeBaldo of Greeley, Colo.; son Thomas (Patty) Wilson of Billings and a sister Rosa Johnson of Palestine, Ill. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Matthew Hutchins of Laurel, Chris (Jamie) Romo of Cheyenne, Wyo., Robert (Angie) Romo of Sidney, Neil (Jennifer) Romo of Sidney, Lori (Steve) Yadon of Sidney, Ryan (Denise) Pacovsky of Columbia Falls, Leslie (Ken) Stewart of Colorado Springs and Maggie (Alex) Wong of Bellevue, Wash.; great-grandchildren Jordan and Courtney Romo (Chris), LaToya Hickok, Thomas and Xander Romo (Robert), Jessica and Nathan Romo (Neil), Bradley Fendrick, Stephanie and Joey Yadon (Lori), and Tyler Stewart (Leslie).
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Cremation & Funeral Gallery.
