TAYLOR, N.D. - Lois Rasmussen, 74, beloved sister, mother and grandmother, went to be with her savior on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002.
Funeral services in Taylor will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at Taylor Lutheran Church. Funeral services in Billings, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at First English Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Mountview Cemetery, Billings.
Lois Mildred Elkins was born Sept. 24, 1927, in Taylor, to Sivert and Elsie (Larsen) Elkins. She grew up in the Taylor area and attended Concordia College for two years. She married Lowell Rasmussen on Sept. 8, 1948, in Taylor. They moved to Billings in 1958.
Lois graduated from EMC in 1969 with a degree in elementary education and a minor in library science. She taught school for several years and then became a librarian at Garfield Elementary in Billings. Lois volunteered at Moss Mansion, St. John's Auxiliary and Boy Scout office.
Lois had a servant heart, which was evident in her many activities at Peace Lutheran Church, where she was a member for many years. She was a member of Sweet Adeline's, Lioness Club and Lois Club. She played in the bell choir at Peace Lutheran and was a caregiver at the Ronald McDonald House in Billings on weekends for many years. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She was always there for birthdays, graduations, weddings, dance recitals, concerts and plays. Her husband died in 1983 and she moved to Taylor in May of 2002.
Her memory lives on in the hearts of her three sons, Daniel (Karen) Rasmussen, Glendive, Mont., Philip (Becky) Rasmussen, Montclair, Va., Alan Rasmussen, Alliance, Neb.; one daughter, Sylvia (UB) Schlieper, Dickinson; three sisters, Eleanor (David) Dunlop, Paw Paw, Mich.; Laurie (Bob) Lively, Santa Maria, Calif.; Johnnie Wallentine, Mabank, Texas; one sister-in-law, Leota Elkins, Taylor; one brother-in-law, Richard Rasmussen, Frannie, Wyo.; seven grandchildren, Kirsten (Peter) Grunnet, Burnsville, Minn., Kyla Rasmussen, Ft. Riley, Kan., Kevin Rasumssen, Glendive, Erich (Colleen) Schlieper, Frederick, Md., Kris (Angela) Schlieper, Virginia Beach, Va., Lindsey Schlieper, Glendive, Lonnie Schlieper, Dickinson; two great-grandchildren, Isaac and Maren Grunnet, Burnsville, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews and special friends, Greg and Martha McDowell, Nick, Jessica, Kelsie and Terra.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell; her parents, Sivert and Elsie Elkins; brother, Bob Elkins; sister-in-law, Sophie Rasmussen; brother-in-law, Dale Wallentine; and niece, Linda Rasmussen.
Memorials are preferred to: Billings Ronald McDonald House, the Boy Scouts and Peace Lutheran Church, Billings.
