NAMPA, Idaho — Lois Adeline Woods Thorpe, 93, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2013, at Kindred Care in Nampa, Idaho. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 3, at 3 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 601 16th Ave. S., Nampa, ID. A viewing will precede the funeral from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
Lois Adeline Woods was born Dec. 5, 1919, at the family farm in Wibaux, Dawson County, Mont., to John R. and Stella Woods. She was the first of seven children. Lois graduated valedictorian from high school in Wibaux in 1937 and earned her teaching degree in 1939 from Eastern Montana State Normal School in Billings. In 1964, she earned a bachelor's degree in education from the Eastern Montana College of Education.
She met the love of her life, C. Kenneth Thorpe, at a church social. They were married on June 18, 1940, in Wibaux and lived their entire married life in Billings. She was a school teacher, housewife and homemaker to three boys: Lloyd Allen, Dwayne Kenneth and Gary Lynn.
Lois was active in the Church of the Nazarene, where she served in various service and leadership positions. She served 17 years as the Missionary president for the Rocky Mountain District and 33 years on the district missionary council. She was awarded two Distinguished Service Awards for her service to the local, district and general church. She was also awarded a Citation of Merit from Northwest Nazarene University Alumni Association.
Lois is survived by a sister, Carol Calkins (Gene), Deerwood, Minn.; a brother, Philip Woods (Joan), Ladson, S.C.; an eldest son, Lloyd Thorpe (Linda), Nampa; a daughter-in-law, Nancy (Dwayne), a daughter-in-law, Vicky (Gary); eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
