LARAMIE, Wyo. - Marcella A. Wieland passed away suddenly at her home in Laramie on Aug. 15, 2009. She was born on Dec. 3, 1953, in Worland, to the late Walter and Dorothy Wieland of Hyattville. She attended Hyattville Elementary School and graduated from Manderson-Hyattville High school, where she was active in many school activities, as well as the local 4-H group. After graduation, she attended the University of Wyoming, graduating with a BS degree in accounting in 1976. She worked for the Coca Cola Company in Cheyenne and Laramie from 1977 to 1981. After that, she worked for Wyoming Pathologists Inc. in Laramie until 2007. She was currently employed at Wyo Tech in Laramie.

She was a life member of the University of Wyoming Alumni Club and Cowboy Club. She thoroughly enjoyed and enthusiastically supported the UW basketball and football teams. Marcella was very active in the Laramie Jr. Miss program for many years and had a very positive impact on the lives of many your women throughout the state. She was the chairperson for the Wyoming Jr. Miss program and was heavily involved with the National Jr. Miss organization. Later she continued her service to this program by judging the programs in other states where she made many friends. It was her passion to help young women find a path to success in life and encourage them to be the best that they could be. At the same time, she dedicated her time to consoling others who were facing life-ending illnesses.

Marcella was also a member of the Soroptimists, Laramie Junior Women's Club, Toastmasters, and other clubs and organizations dedicated to helping others. Marcella was well known for her caring manner and willingness to help others in their time of need. She was also a member of the First Methodist Church of Laramie , served on various committees, and for a time taught Sunday School classes.

Marcella was a cat lover, especially white cats when she was younger, and never stopped having cats. Growing up with three older brothers was a challenge for her at times, but she was able to carve out a special niche for herself in the lives of many people in Laramie and many other states. She will be deeply missed by her family and her many acquaintances and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Dorothy Wieland, and is survived by three brothers, Butch (Edie) Wieland of Sheridan, Gary (Andrea) of Houston, David Wieland (Jan) of Shepherd, Mont.; nephews Kole Wieland of Portland, Ore., and Matt (Emily) Wieland of Bozeman, Mont.; nieces Lisa Howard of Napa, Calif., Tatia (Sergio) of Novato, Calif., Amanda (Brad) Caldwell of Dallas, Jennifer (Dan) McNally of Billings; great-nieces Chloe Howard and Caroline Caldwell; plus many aunts and cousins and special friend Sonja Vines of Cheyenne.

A celebration of life for Marcella will be held at the first Methodist Church in Laramie at 1215 Gibbon St. at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, followed by refreshments. Business casual dress is acceptable and friends and family are encouraged to participate and share memories with the group.

A graveside ceremony will also be held at the Rockvale, Mont., Cemetery on Sunday, Aug. 23, at 3 p.m., followed by a sandwich buffet at Ft. Rockvale at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances and contributions may be made to a memorial fund established at Security State Bank, PO Box 531, Basin, WY 82410 to establish a scholarship for the Junior Miss program.
