MISSOULA — On Oct. 29, 2010, Margaret (Margo) Kathleen Murphy Jerrim, died at her home in Missoula, Mont. She was 69 years old. Born on June 16, 1941, in Billings, to Jessie Price Murphy and John Bernard Murphy, Margo grew up in Laurel, Mont.
After graduation from Laurel High School, Margo moved to Missoula to attend the University of Montana, where she received a bachelor's degree in education. Around this time Margo met and married John Jerrim, whom she later divorced. The two moved to Michigan, where Margo began her first teaching job. In the years that followed Margo lived along the coast of Washington and Oregon working as a teacher and librarian. In 1968, her only child Kathryn (Kate) Marie Jerrim was born..
In 1974, Margo moved back to Missoula, Mont., where she attended the University of Montana and obtained a master's degree in special education. She received a position as a teacher in the Missoula School District in the special education program at C.S. Porter Middle School.
She later taught the fourth grade at Prescott and Rattlesnake Schools. Margo served as president of the Teachers' Union during the late 80's. In 2009, after more than 30 years as an educator, Margo retired. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor in June, 2010.
Margo is predeceased by her mother and father Jessie and John B. Murphy of Laurel. She is survived by her brother Robert J. Murphy; sister-in-law Carol; and nephew John, of Jacksonville, Fla. In Missoula, Margo is survived by her sister Joan Jonkel; her brother-in-law Charles Jonkel; her nephew James and his daughter Madeline; and her niece Elizabeth and husband Brad Craig. Also surviving her are her daughter Kate Jerrim Ybarra and husband George Ybarra, and her granddaughter Zora.
Cremation has taken place and her remains with be interred with her parents in the Laurel Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at the Prescott School Gymnasium, 1100 Harrison Street, Missoula, MT on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 10 am.
