LODGE GRASS - Marlene Ann Bird, 63, of Lodge Grass, passed away Jan. 7, 2009, in the Billings Rehabilitation Center.
Iissatbish bia "Rabbit Woman" was born May 22, 1945, in Crow Agency, a daughter of Fred and Josephine Lion Shows Bird. She grew and received her education in Lodge Grass, graduating from Lodge Grass High School in 1963. She later attended Eastern Montana College, majoring in education. She lived in the Lodge Grass area all of her life, working at the IGA Store and serving as a substitute for the Lodge Grass schools.
Marlene was a member of the Pentecostal Church, Greasy Mouth Clan and was a child of the Ties the Bundle Clan. Her faith in the Lord was strong, enabling her to serve Him from the age of 18. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and crafts and actively participated in the Messengers for Health, a cancer awareness group.
Her parents; grandparents who raised her, Glen and Rosa Bompard Bird; grandson Armand Bird Jr.; sister Vicki Bird; brother Clayton Horn; and nephews Ronald Casillas, Quannah and Willie Bird preceded Marlene in death.
Survivors include her son, Armand Bird; sister Annette Bird; brothers, Byron, Dean and Dana Bird; she loved her grandsons Desmond, Chandran, Rylon and Royce Bird; her aunts, Henrietta Pretty on Top, Nathelle Jefferson and Ruth Alden; a special friend, Edwina Beaumont; as well as her extended family, including the Bird in Ground, Backbone, Horn, Knows His Gun, Bird Hat, Not Afraid, Pretty on Top, Bear Below, Left Hand, Cummins, Lion Shows and Red Star families. Our family greatly appreciates the loving care provided to our loved one by the staffs of the Awe Kualawaache Care Center, Billings Dialysis Center and the Billings Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, in the Lodge Grass Catholic Church Gymnasium. Interment will follow in the Lodge Grass Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
