OLYMPIA, Washington — Sadly, we lost our beloved mother after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
On July 21, 1931, Mary was born in Bozeman to Murton and Frances Slaght. The family moved to Gallatin Valley in the 1940s. Mary married Hershel Maynard Carpenter on Jan. 26, 1950, and continued to live in Montana until 2007, when they moved to Moses Lake, Washington, to be closer to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary devoted her entire life to raising her children, taking care of her husband and extended family. Mary worked at Diana Shop, Seed Lab on campus, and as a cook at Willson Jr. High. Mary’s many talents included making world famous peanut brittle, cinnamon rolls, dancing and playing cards. She especially enjoyed having several family members and friends over for dinner.
Mary was very social and enjoyed many years of membership in Lions where she made several lifelong friends.
On Feb. 12, 2018, Mary passed away in Olympia, Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband Hershel, parents Murton and Frances, brothers Tom Slaght and Delbert Slaght, sisters Gladys Dunahoo and Grace Margaret Slaght, and step grandson Clinton Johnson. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Tim Jacobsen, son and daughter-in-law David and Colleen Carpenter, grandchildren Brian and Jennifer Jacobsen, Matthew and Amanda Jacobsen, and great grandchildren Kate, Nicholas, Violet and Lyla Jacobsen.
Memorials can be made to Montana Lion’s Sight and Hearing Foundation. Cremation has taken place. Services will be announced at later date.
