HELENA — Mildred Lenore Wilde, passed away on Dec. 22, 2009 at St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by her family.

Mildred was born Sept. 2, 1920, near Mantador, N. D., to Frank and Mary Schlener. Later the family moved to Bismarck, N. D., and she graduated from St. Mary’s High School in l939.

After various jobs in that area, she met Eugene R. Wilde while working as a secretary for the Bureau of Reclamation. They married in Bismarck on April 4, 1951. They made their home in Great Falls for five years while starting their family. Their children Jane, Tom and Bill were born there. They transferred to Billings with the Bureau of Reclamation in l957 where she continued her job as homemaker.

Mildred (Mili) was an active member of St. Pius X Church, Bitteroot Garden Club and a volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store. She lived in Billings for 45 years.

After Eugene’s (Gene’s) death, Mili remained in Billings until her move to Helena in December of 2002 to be close to family. She resided at the Waterford until her death. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church.

Mili had many interests which included painting, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, sewing, cooking and flower arranging. She loved to visit with people and was a volunteer at Broadwater School in her  daughter’s classroom. She knitted sweaters for less fortunate children in the world. She was a devout Catholic and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandma.

Mili was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Schlener; her husband, Gene Wilde; her son, William Wilde; and brothers Frank and Charles Schlener. She leaves her daughter, Jane (Mike Bishop) of Helena and son, Tom of Butte. There are four grandsons: Jon Bishop (Kim) of Farmington, Conn., Andrew Bishop of Helena, Wil Wilde and Luke Wilde of Butte; and her great grandchildren, Maggie and Sam Bishop of Farmington, Conn. Survivors include her sister Janet Schlener of Lakewood, Colo.; and niece Sharon (Chuck) Gonzales of Billings.

There will be a Memorial mass at the Waterford on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m. on the 2nd floor forum. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to Legendary Lodge, 2115 Highway 83 North, Seeley Lake, MT 59869; St. Pius X Church, 717 18th St., Billings, MT 59102; or PEERS unlimited, c/o Diane Ziemann, Director, P.O. Box 173, Helena, MT 59624. A Funeral mass will be celebrated at a later date at St. Pius X Church in Billings. “The quality of a woman’s life is measured by how deeply she has touched the lives of others.” Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hagler-Anderson Funeral Home and Anderson Cremation Services in Helena.
