BIG TIMBER — Nora J. McKenney, 92, of Big Timber, passed away Friday, April 15, 2011, at the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber.
Nora was born Feb. 28, 1919, in Idaho, to Arthur B. and Margie E. Koch. The family moved to Montana coming through the Gallatin Canyon when it was still a dirt road, trailing horses and livestock.
She married Alfred Jensen and they had a son Rick. She later divorced and married Stan McKenney on March 10, 1962, and to them a son Dwayne was born.
Nora was an avid horseman, hunter, gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. She enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter and packing into the mountains in the summer and fishing the high mountain lakes.
She was diagnosed with MS in 1962, but she never let that slow her down. She was still riding horses at 78, and was able to go riding with all of her grandchildren. She was the toughest woman that any who knew her had ever met.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and her son Rick. She is survived by her husband Stan; son Dwayne; grandchildren Jackie, Riley and Cole; her sister Ivy Faddness of Phoenix, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials in Nora's name may be made to the Livestock Judging Team, PO Box 640, Big Timber, MT 59011.
