FROID - A funeral service will be held for Oscar Svendsen at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 23, at Froid Lutheran Church. Pastor Carol Karris will officiate and burial will be in Froid South Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the church following interment. Oscar died in Missoula on Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at the Riverside Health Care facility.
Oscar was born Nov. 5, 1912. He spent his entire life in Froid, attending Froid Public Schools and graduating in 1931. In 1932, he went to work for First State Bank of Froid and retired 49 years later in 1981.
On Dec. 17, 1936, Oscar married Maude Kincaid in Wolf Point, making their family home in Froid. Out of this union came three children: James Henry, Jane Ann and Jack William.
Oscar held the office of mayor and councilman for the town of Froid. He was a member of the Masons for over 62 years; Elks for 54 years; the Danish Brotherhood and the Froid Lutheran Church. Oscar enjoyed bird hunting and fishing with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Gerda; his brother, Jens; and his wife, Maude. He is survived by his children, Jim (Caron), Jane Jeppe (Bill), Jack (Judy); and grandchildren, Del Rae Grose (Greg), Charlene Sullivan (Eddie), Mike Aus, Jimmy (Cara), Jody Hayes (Josh); and nine great-grandchildren.
