LODGE GRASS — Paul Alvin Lande, Sr. 81, of Lodge Grass, was released from his Parkinson’s disease-ravaged body to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at the Heritage Acres Nursing Home.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1929, in Havre, the sixth of seven children born to Henry D. and Cleora Goss Lande. He spent his childhood in the Butte and Anaconda area, as well as in the Bitterroot.
In 1950, he married Lola Marie “Toni” Fellows in Butte and, to that union, three children were born. Toni passed away on Jan. 1, 1962.
Paul’s first job was in the mines of Butte. He and Toni moved to Santa Rosa, Calif., where he spent several years in the painting and drywall trade, later moving to Missoula to continue his trade. On Dec. 5, 1969, he married Jeanne Gourdoux in Missoula. In 1979, he realized a lifelong dream to ranch and the couple moved to Lodge Grass.
He loved to camp, hunt, fish and was never happier than when camping with his family. He especially looked forward to extended family camping trips to the Big Hole. He loved classical music, loved to sing, and had a beautiful tenor voice. He was an avid gardener and was proud of his tomatoes and sweet corn. He was a member of the Crow Tribe, the Lodge Grass Faith Baptist Church, and was a lifetime member of the Sons of Norway.
His parents, sister Mamie Printz, brothers Dewey L. and Harvey E. Lande and his first wife Toni preceded Paul in death.
Dad and Grandpa, you will be greatly missed, but we are happy to know you are now in a much better place and we hope you are singing with the angels.
The family would like to thank the following for providing Paul with excellent care: the compassionate staff of Heritage Acres in Hardin, Dr. John Foster and the staff of the Hardin Clinic. We also wish to thank Dr. Rob Byron of PHS in Crow Agency for the many years of fine care he provided for Paul.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne of Hardin; his brother, Jack of St. Xavier, Henry of Billings and Charles of Stevensville; his sister, Lilah Higle of Eureka; his children, Linda (Mark) Smith of Boise, Idaho, Paul Jr. (Barbara) of Billings and Bert (Mary) of Sheridan, Wyo.; his grandchildren, Jeromy and Joshua Smith, Kim Fink, Melissa Rich, Mike, Chris and Toni Lande; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will be held at a later date in Missoula. Bullis Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Should friends desire, memorials may be sent to Heritage Acres, 200 N. Mitchell, Hardin, MT 59034; or the Gideon’s, Box 1984, Billings, MT 59103.
