Rita Basile passed away peacefully, surrounded by her great-nieces and nephew, on April 30, 2003, at Eagle Cliff Manor in Billings.

Rita was born in Conway, N.D., on May 26, 1916, a daughter to Antoinette Dusek Chromy and Francis (Frank) Chromy.

Rita attended St. Michaels Elementary and Mahnomen High School in Mahnomen, Minn.

Rita came to Billings in 1943 and worked for D.J. Cole Department Store and Fuch's Dress Shop.

Rita and her husband, Michael Basile, owned and operated the Bella Vista Supper Club atop the Rims. Mr. Basile died in 1962. Rita also worked at the Airport Sky View Terrace from 1965 until 1990, when she retired.

Rita was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and a past member of St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral.

Rita is a past regent of Catholic Daughters Court St. Cecilia 1151 and belonged to the Eagles Auxiliary, American Legion and Moose Chapter O.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Basile; her parents; and four brothers, Cyrill, Benedict, Frank and Joseph Chromy; a nephew, Ken Chromy; and a stepdaughter, Alice Basile Mortensen.

Rita is survived by six nieces and one nephew, Marilyn Wilson, Mrs. Michael (Darlene) Spahn, Judith Workman, Bonnie Riegler, Kathy Slyter, Lynette Christopher and Leon Chromy; three step-grandchildren, Annette Smith, Georgia Wadsworth and Maxine Benson; 21 great-nieces and nephews, those from the Billings area include Scott Wilson, Mrs. Tim (Michelle) Cavan, Mrs. Rich (Cheryl) St. John and Mrs. Kip (Nancy) Farnum; and a special friend, Cliff Braaton.

A memorial mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church.
