Rose Marie L. Getty, 72, of Billings, passed away Nov. 28, 2009, surrounded by the family she loved and cared for her whole life.
Rose was born in Toledo, Ohio, on Feb. 14, 1937, to Floyd and Irene Prbyzylski. The youngest of two girls born to Floyd and Irene, Rose was raised and educated in Toledo. After school, Rose worked for Dunn & Bradstreet and Owens Illinois as an administrative assistant, where she excelled and received numerous awards for excellence. Rose married the love of her life, Dennis Getty, June 1, 1957, in Monroe, Mich. A son was born to Rose and Dennis five years later and not long after, Rose decided to leave her career at Owens Illinois to become a full-time mom. Rose had a strong faith and anyone who knew her knew that her greatest love in life was her family. She was an avid outdoor enthusiast and loved to hunt and fish. Rose loved to read, cross-stitch and especially cook. When she wasn’t watching cooking channels, she was often trying out or perfecting her recipes in the kitchen. She was always working on her cookbook with her husband Dennis. She always had a dream of publishing her family recipes so that other families could enjoy the taste of home she loved to provide for her own family. Rose would be the first to admit she was addicted to garage sales and loved to fill her home with all kinds of knickknacks or as she called them “bargains.” Rose moved to Billings with Dennis in 1984 where they continued to enjoy a wonderful life together.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Mary Ann, with whom she shared a special bond her whole life.
Rose is survived by her loving husband, Dennis; son, Mark; daughter-in-law, Souther; mother-in-law, Helen Braun; sisters-in-law, Charlene Breitner and Paula Laroy; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would ask that any memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale, Memphis, TN 38105, in Rose’s name. We would also like to thank the loving staff of Horizon Hospice Home for their care and all the wonderful people of Interim Health Care and RiverStone Health for their support and care.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, at Smith Downtown Chapel, located at 925 S. 27th St. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3.
