Roy R. Coburn, 65, passed away at his home on April 5, 2011.
He was born on July 18, 1945, in Billings, to Lyndon S. Sr. and Lydia Kammerzell Coburn. He was the youngest of four children, raised on the Coburn farm west of Billings. He attended Elder Grove School and graduated from Billings West in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1968. He married Charlotte Erickson on April 29, 1967.
Roy was quite the avid outdoorsman as a hunter, fisherman and amateur wildlife photographer. He also loved camping and retreating to his cabin at Cooney Dam.
Roy always had a joke and was never without one. During the 4th of July, he was right in the crowd of kids.
Roy worked in the oil industry for the majority of his working years, and retired after working with Powder River.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Reid.
Roy is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Billings; daughter Elaine of Tacoma, Wash.; daughter Kate of Billings; and son Michael of Billings. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Nicholas, Jazlyn and Riley; as well as brother Lyndon Jr. and sister Georgia Moore of Billings.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, April 11, at Smith's Downtown Chapel, 925 S. 27th. Interment will follow at the Yellowstone County Veteran's Cemetery in Laurel.
