Shirley Erickson, age 86, of Billings passed away on Sunday June 1, 2014.
Shirley was born in Minot, N.D., on Feb. 14, 1928, and grew up in Great Falls. Being a Valentine baby, Shirley had many “heart” collections and a birthday easy to remember. For many years, Shirley was a teacher’s aide at the Fratt School and Riverside Jr. High. She enjoyed the association with young people. In retirement, Shirley and her husband Erick spent many years traveling the country side in their motor home. Their trips included journeys to Alaska, Hawaii, Saskatchewan and many of the Western and Southern States. Shirley also enjoyed boating, fishing and camping. Shirley believed her Norwegian heritage made her strong. Those who knew and loved her would agree.
Shirley is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Erick; son Dr. Erick L. Erickson (Jeni) and granddaughter Greta; daughter Dr. Karla M. Satchwell (Robert) and grandchildren Andrew and Katherine; sister Dorothy Johnson (Skip); brother Albert O. Schmidt (Carolyn); and many nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life, Shirley attracted friends because she was so caring, kind and generous. She had many lifelong friendships including Bob and Pat Hull, Donn and Pat Bruggeman, and some that spanned 80 years.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Esther Schmidt.
Our family is grateful for the loving care provided by Rocky Mountain Hospice in these last months of Shirley’s life.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at Cremation & Funeral Gallery, 29 Eighth St. W.
