Billings resident Thomas L. Blevins, Jr., 49, died at his home during the early morning hours of Dec. 26, 2009. His last day was spent celebrating the Christmas holiday surrounded by family.
Tom was born April 18, 1960, in Billings, the son of Thomas L. Blevins, Sr. and Judy A. (Hein) Blevins.
Growing up the son of a Lutheran pastor, Tom lived in Minneapolis; Milwaukee; and Portland, Ore., before moving back to Billings in 1977. He graduated from Billings West High in 1978.
Tom married his high school sweetheart, Terri Vines, on Feb. 10, 1979. The couple raised their family in Billings, where daughter Megen was born in 1986 and son Connor was born in 1991.
Tom enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting. He also coached and umpired youth baseball and spent many years playing in men’s softball leagues.
Tom served on the board of directors for Christikon Lutheran Bible Camp and, before his job kept him on the road, he spent many early summer days preparing the camp for its young campers on the annual work weekend.
He loved the lifestyle of a long-haul truck driver and was working for Corcoran Trucking of Billings at the time of his death. His job took him all across the continental U.S. And although he enjoyed his long trips and seeing many parts of the country, he was even happier when he was able to come home and spend time with his family.
Tom is preceded in death by his mother, Judy Blevins; his brother, Robert Blevins; and his grandmother, Francis Hein.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Terri; daughter Megen Kyle and son Connor Jakob, all of the family home; his father, Tom (Diane) Blevins and grandfather Robert A. Hein.
Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 31, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Billings, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jack Shannon officiating. There will be a reception following.
For those who would like to give a memorial in Tom’s name, please send to Christikon Lutheran Bible Camp, 1108 24th St. West, Billings, MT 59102 or to the charity of one’s choice.
