Thomas C. Stewart, 78, passed away at home, Sunday, June 29, 2003, after a courageous battle with emphysema and cancer. He was born in Homer City, Pa., on Sept. 25, 1924, to Charles and Lula Uncapher Stewart.
Tom moved with his family to Indiana, Pa., at a young age. His schooling was completed there. He married Virginia Saal on Feb. 12, 1943, and they were divorced in 1973. To this marriage was born three children, Karla Sue, Kristen Ann and Kathy Linn. Tom served in WWII in the Infantry Tank Division. He was injured in action, received the Purple Heart Award and earned several other medals.
Tom worked in the retail business in Pennsylvania for 32 years. After moving to Billings, he worked for School District 2 as a custodian, completing his career as head custodian at the Lincoln Center. He was a perfectionist.
On Nov. 24, 1978, he married Winona Lee Hustad.
Tom is survived by his wife, Winona; a daughter, Kristen Paglia (Robert); stepchildren, Kenneth Hustad (Carol), Bryon Hustad (Kim), and Carla Amundson (Hal); grandchildren, Dennis Suzle, Darci Suzle White, Robert Scott Paglia, Renee' Paglia Owens and Christofer Mitchell; three great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a sister, Dorothy Maggs. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Karla Suzle Brumley and Kathy Mitchell.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, at Smith's Downtown Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Big Sky Hospice or a charity of one's choice.
