RED LODGE — It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved son, brother and uncle, Trevor Jay Atwell, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010. His loving, gentle spirit touched so many lives in so many different ways. His shy, quiet manner was known around the city of Red Lodge, where he lived the past 20 years.
Trevor was born on Dec. 15, 1966, in Omaha, Neb., the oldest of three children. With his family, he moved to Billings in 1970, where he attended school and graduated from Senior High.
He began his working career in Red Lodge at Crazy Creek Manufacturing, where he worked until they closed their production. Bogart’s Restaurant was his next job, where he was working until his death. Those were just his day jobs. After work, he mowed lawns, shoveled snow, cut wood and volunteered at the recycling center on Saturdays if he wasn’t hunting or working at the cabin. He made a daily trip to the post office and was often seen around town walking his dog or riding his bike.
Trevor could work the most difficult puzzles, but was never able to drive a car. He could remember everyone’s birthday and age. He helped tackle the most challenging remodel jobs, and found great excitement in decorating his house and yard at Christmas. At the cabin, darkness was the only thing that drove him inside. His very last project at the cabin was to clean out all the birdhouses so they would be ready in the spring. Trevor lived a full and satisfying life, never once complaining or whining about anything. He only gave his love to all of us.
Red Lodge provided Trevor with a community of wonderful friends: Brad, Albert, Eddy, Rachel and Kim (whom he referred to as his girlfriend), but Barb Kramsky of Beartooth Industries provided Trevor the guidance to live independently for these last 20 years. We want to thank all of these people, his employers and all of Red Lodge, who gave their love and friendship, which provided a very safe and successful life for our son and brother.
Trevor is survived by his mother, Jan Atwell and Matt Goss; his father, Jay Atwell and Katie Link; his brother, Shane Atwell and his wife, Veronique Baron, and their daughter, Morgane; his sister, Janna Atwell; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Extended family members include John (Shelly) Link, Lisa (Larry) Green and family and Amy (Tyler) Winter and family.
Trevor was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary Ellen and Arlin Krummen, and Jesse and Doris Atwell.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Red Lodge. A reception will follow at Bogart’s Restaurant. Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the Beartooth Humane Alliance, Box 2333, Red Lodge, MT 59068; or to the Animal Shelter of Yellowstone County, 1735 Monad Road, Billings, MT 59101.
