TUCSON, Ariz. — Verna Mae Neel went home to be with the lord Dec. 31, 2011, in Tucson.
Verna Mae, born Nov. 24, 1920, in St. Louis, was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Janet and her husband, Berle Neel.
She is survived by son, Eddie Dean Neel (Sandra) of Albuquerque N.M.; daughters, Beverly Lussier (Robin) and Nancy Salveson (husband Philip Williams), both of Tucson; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Verna Mae graduated from high school in St. Louis and attended two years of college. She married and moved to Montana, where she and her first husband had two daughters and ran a confectionary. After her first husband died, she taught kindergarten and was the youth director in her church. In 1959, she married Berle Neel and they all moved to St. Louis. She started her own day care and Berle became a government meat inspector. The government moved them to Texas and then to Billings and then to Hardin, where he retired. In 1999, they moved to Tucson to be with family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation will be held at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 E. Grant Road, at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, with services followed at 10 a.m. Pastor Ed and Gordon Vernon of Rincon Baptist Church will be officiating services.
