ABSAROKEE — Von Nita was born in Edmond, Okla., on March 6, 1928, to Maurice and Ruth Lewis. They moved to Powell, Wyo., in 1944 where she met the love of her life, Wayne Pearson. They were married May 28, 1946. She left this earth on Feb. 10, 2011, to be with Jesus and wait for Wayne. They planned a 64th wedding anniversary this spring.
They homesteaded at Heart Mountain after Wayne's return from World War II and lived in a Japanese barracks with snow drifting in the corners. They traded the homestead in Wyoming for a ranch at Belmont, Mont., and later sold this ranch to buy the Midnight Canyon Ranch at Absarokee. They later built the Absarokee Ranch Supply where Von Nita sold nursery plants, ran errands to Billings for supplies and helped run the feed store. In the meantime, she was president of the Stillwater County Homemakers Club, Girl Scout leader and active in Choir and other civic activities. She was a long time member of the Absarokee Evangelical Church and helped build the original church in 1961. She later became secretary of the new Evangelical Church building committee and saw it through to completion. She has always been Wayne's personal secretary and computer operator and was always on call. It has been a happy journey together.
