CROW AGENCY — Waylon Phil Bighead, 38, of Crow Agency, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Feb. 13, 2017.

“Morning Star” Ihké leaxé , named by his late grandfather Vernon White Clay Jr., was born in Crow Agency on April 17, 1978, a son of Merle Bighead Sr. of Worley, Idaho, and Patleen Stewart of Crow Agency. He was a member of the Ties the Bundle clan and a child of the Greasy Mouth clan.

Waylon attended several schools in Montana, graduating from El Camino High School in Oceanside CA in 1996 and attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising-San Diego. His career was in the food service industry culminating in his position as assistant manager at the Custer Battlefield Trading Post. Waylon was known for his professionalism and fun service to his customers.

Waylon had an adventurous spirit participating in various activities as well as traveling the United States. He treated people with respect, kindness and making each one feel important. He was known for his sweet disposition and was a beacon of light and yet his personality was straight forward.

He was preceded in death by Milo Bighead, Carol One Bear and Adelia Little Owl Stewart.

Survivors include his parents, Merle (Maria) Bighead Sr. and Patleen Stewart (Leroy Cummins); grandfather David Stewart Sr.; brothers Merle Jr., (Kailee), Milo (Ashlee), A.J. Bighead, Santino and Si’Cha SiJohn, Nathan Jr., John, Christopher, Robin and Harlow Enick; sisters Jolauna (JD) Pickett, Carla (Cal) Bighead and Sharlina SiJohn; his nephews Boston Stewart (whom he raised as his own), Josiah(Tia) Pickett, Cervante`Stops, August and Qui’ets’sah Bighead; nieces Zeruiah (Darrian) Stewart, Vana, Emmerson and Kaydence Pickett; grandson Manziel Backbone; as well as extended families in the Crow, Northern Cheyenne and Canadian nations. A host of friends throughout the world.

Heartfelt thank you to Dr. Jaatoul and nurses of Riverstone Health Center, Billings Clinic, and Indian Health Service.

Wake services will be held Thursday Feb. 16, at 8 p.m., at the Crow Multipurpose Building. Funeral services are Friday Feb. 17, at 11 a.m., at the Spirit of Life Foursquare Church in Crow Agency. Interment will follow in the Hardin Fairview Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary has been entrusted with the arrangements.
