William “Bill” George Darkenwald, age 64, passed away early Monday morning, May 6, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born on Nov. 28, 1948, in Billings, son of Severyn and Ursula Darkenwald. Bill spent his entire life in the Billings area.
Bill graduated from Billings Senior High School and married his first wife, Dorene Ann (Evans) Darkenwald, in 1968. Together they had two children, Greg and Jenny. Dorene passed away due to a car accident in 1986.
Bill then remarried to Lucy Fernandez in 1990 in Billings. Bill and Lucy resided south of Billings on the family ranch. They enjoyed nearly 23 years of marriage together. They enjoyed horses and raising cattle. Bill thoroughly enjoyed all animals, woodworking and generally just hanging out around the place, driving his pets around in the RTV (occasionally bragging about how fast it would go!). He also enjoyed hunting, camping and packing into the mountains on horseback. Bill went through an electrical apprenticeship and spent 35 years in varying capacities in the electrical trade. He was exceptionally proud of the apprentices that he was able to mentor over the years.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Lucy; children, Greg (Mandy) Darkenwald, Jenny (Ron) Gordon; and two grandchildren, Colton Darkenwald and Josie Gordon. He is also survived by siblings Dan (Marge) Darkenwald, Sue Ann (Dave) Mullen and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.
Per Bill’s request, no services will be held and his ashes will be spread on the family ranch.
Arrangements are by Cremation & Funeral Gallery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cfgbillings.com through “Our Families.”
