HARLOWTON - William Howard Cooney, 81, of Harlowton, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings on Wednesday, April 24, 2002. Bill suffered a heart attack on the morning of April 23. He spent the last day of his life comfortably enjoying his family. His smile and sense of humor continued to grace the lives of all he touched. He took pride in, and good care of his family, his livestock, and land.
Bill was born Dec. 16, 1920, to J.P. and Leta Cooney, in Harlowton. He attended high school in Harlowton, and spent his entire life ranching with his family in the Fish Creek Hills.
He is survived by his brothers, Robert H. Cooney of Harlowton, Frank J. Cooney of Helena; sisters Katherine Chandler of Phoenix, Mary McNamara of Helena. He had numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Jack N. Cooney of Harlowton; and sister Betty Settle of Grand Junction, Colo.
Bill was the center of the circle for his whole family. He was greatly loved and will be remembered by all.
Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, April 29, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Harlowton. Burial will follow at the Harlowton Catholic Cemetery.
