Greeting fit for a queen
I am a 94-year-old woman, and I have had so many "brushes" with famous and wonderful people that it is very hard to choose just one.
But I do believe my very first encounter, when I was in the sixth grade in a little oil town in Wyoming, was my most memorable.
Our sixth-grade teacher announced that she was going to take us to see a queen.
We all put on our jackets and caps and prepared to walk across two ravines and through an old stubble field to the depot where the train was stopped. There sitting on the rear observation platform of the train was a lady.
Our teacher said, "That is Queen Marie of Romania, and she is traveling across the country."
I was shaking with excitement, and, without thinking, I shouted at the top of my voice, "Hello, Queen" (to the embarrassment of my teachers and classmates), and she smiled, nodded her head and waved her hanky.
