This Sunday is Food Bank Sunday, a time to gather food and funds for the Billings Food Bank. The food bank is also gathering food for the upcoming holidays.
Specific items needed for the food bank’s various programs are:
Regular food boxes: rice, potatoes, pasta, pasta sauce, one-can meals (chili, stew, etc.) soup, ramen noodles, peanut butter, jelly and fresh meat. Donations of meat from hunters and meat producers are especially appreciated.
Meals prepared on site: rice, pasta, pasta sauce, and fresh and canned meat and fish.
Backpack Program: shelf-stable milk; individual-size cereal, pudding, fruits, soups and one-can meals, granola bars, meat sticks, ramen noodles and Easy Mac; and one-gallon and sandwich-size Ziplock-type bags.

Sack lunches: meat, cheese, peanut butter & jelly, drinks, and individual-size snacks such as trail mix, etc.
Pet food pantry: cat food.
Baby Pantry: Enfamil, large-size diapers and baby wipes.
Holidays: flour, gravy mix, veggies, yams, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, canned fruit, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, individually wrapped candy, Jell-O, eggs and cereal.
Volunteers are always needed, especially to help with holiday preparations. Food box preparation and distribution schedules are available by calling the office.
The food bank is also accepting applications for holiday food boxes. A picture ID, proof of address and Social Security card are required. Applications are accepted at the food bank from 10 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m., Monday-Friday.
