Vigils planned for Saturday, celebrations on Sunday at Billings churches


Many Billings churches are planning vigils on Saturday and Easter celebrations on Sunday.

Events planned for Saturday include:

Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 40 10th St. W.: The Easter vigil service is at 7 p.m.

Faith E Church, 3145 Sweetwater Drive: There is a service at 5 p.m., followed by a reception.

Mayflower Congregational United Church of Christ, 2940 Poly Drive: The prayer vigil is from noon to 8 p.m. Individuals or families are encouraged to join in this quiet prayer time in the sanctuary. Bibles, prayers, poetry and more will be available. You may choose to bring your own materials or sit in silence for the vigil experience. Two or more people are encouraged to sign up in the narthex for each 30-minute increment.

St. Bernard’s Parish, 226 Wicks Lane: The Easter Vigil begins at 8 p.m.

Shiloh United Methodist Church, 1810 Shiloh Road: The Easter prayer vigil is from 2 to 5 p.m. The Sanctuary/Celebration Room is open to all for individual time to pray and reflect on Jesus’ sacrifices for us and to look toward his triumph over death with anticipation. Visit for more information.

Easter Sunday services include:

American Lutheran Church, 5 Lewis Ave.: Easter Sunday celebratory worship services are at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Breakfast is served by the youth group from 8 to 11 a.m.

Atonement Lutheran Church, 407 Wicks Lane: The 6:30 a.m. sunrise service is at The Little White Church. Events at Atonement include breakfast at 7 a.m. and services at 8 and 9:45 a.m.

The Church of Healing Faith, meeting at Country Inn Hotel, 213 Main St.: Come for the first Easter celebration at this new church project. The adult Bible class is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., with children’s Sunday school at 10 a.m. The worship is at 10 a.m. For more information, call 208-7429 or email

Faith E Church, 3145 Sweetwater Drive: Easter services are at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m., with an Easter brunch available from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

First Congregational United Church of Christ, 310 N. 27th St.: Easter Sunday worship at 11 a.m. features brass accompaniment and an invitation to join the choir in singing the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah.” There is coffee and conversation before and after worship. All are welcome to dress casually. There are activities for children during worship and a nursery is available.

First English Lutheran Church, 1243 N. 31st St.: The Easter celebration starts with breakfast at 8:30 a.m. by the youth as a fundraiser for their mission trip. A donation is asked. At the 10 a.m. worship, a brass quartet accompanies the hymns. The music offering is by the adult choir and the children. After worship, children are invited to an Easter egg hunt.

First Presbyterian Church, Poly Drive and 13th St. W.: Easter worship services are at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. An Easter breakfast will be served by the youth group in the church’s fellowship hall at 9:15 a.m. A freewill offering will benefit the church’s youth ministry program.

First United Methodist Church, 2800 Fourth Ave. N.: The 6:30 a.m. sunrise worship is in Shelter No. 2 at Riverfront Park. Easter worship services at the church are at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Anyone who wishes to sing the “Hallelujah Chorus” at the end of the 10:30 a.m. service is invited to a quick rehearsal at 10 a.m. Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 10 a.m. in Brother Van Hall, and proceeds benefit Interfaith Hospitality Network. The menu includes a breakfast casserole, sausage, hash brown potatoes, fruit, cinnamon rolls, milk, orange juice and coffee. Freedom Church, 550 32nd St. W.: At 10 a.m., celebrate Easter with the real-life drama “Final Destiny,” which features the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. For more information, call 652-1240.

Grace United Methodist Church, 1935 Ave. B: The sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. is held around the fire pit on the patio by the fellowship hall. After the service, youth will serve a breakfast of scones and fruit. Worship in the sanctuary at 10:15 a.m. includes the singing of the "Hallelujah Chorus." Following the worship, the youth will host an Easter egg hunt for children, ages toddlers through fifth grade. Bring your own basket.

Hope United Methodist Church, 244 Wicks Lane: Easter “Sonrise” worship will be at 7 a.m. on the front patio. An Easter brunch will be served from 7:30 to 10:15 a.m. Easter worship services are at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.

Joy Lutheran Church, meeting at Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3200 block of Broadwater Ave.: Easter breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The 10 a.m. worship includes special music by Doreen Ostenson and Ron Shaw

King of Glory Lutheran Church, 4125 Grand Ave.: Easter Sunday Holy Communion worship services are at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m., with special Easter music with the King of Glory Choir, Glory Ringers Handbell Choir, Children’s Choir and Festival Brass. Pastries and muffins will be available between services in the commons.

Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1108 24th St. W.: The sunrise service begins at 7 a.m. At 9 and 11 a.m., there are resurrection festival services with the choir and the Montana State University Billings Brass Ensemble. Easter breakfast is served by LCGS youth from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2336 St. Johns Ave.: There is an Easter sunrise Communion service at 7 a.m. Breakfast is served in the fellowship hall beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Easter Communion service is at 10:45 a.m.

New Life Church, 3950 Temple Place: Everyone is invited to the Easter service at 10:30 a.m.

Pilgrim Congregational Church, 409 S. 36th St: A sunrise service begins at 6:30 a.m. at Riverfront Park in partnership with All Nations Church. Breakfast will follow in the fellowship hall at Pilgrim Congregational Church. The Easter Sunday service is at 10 a.m.

St. John’s Lutheran Ministries, 3940 Rimrock Road: Easter worship services are at 8:45 a.m. at Unity Square, 9:30 a.m. at Garden Court, 10:30 a.m. at Chapel Court; 11 a.m. at The Vista and in the Cottages over the noon hour. There is no worship service at 7 p.m.

Shiloh United Methodist Church, 1810 Shiloh Road: Easter sunrise worship begins outside at 6:45 a.m., processing into the sanctuary. Easter celebration worships are at 8 and 10 a.m. An Easter egg hunt for children will be held on the lawn at 11 a.m. More information is available at
