Dear Joyce: Recently there was a request for a crust recipe for pasties.

This is a recipe I received several years ago and my family really enjoys.

Pasties

1-1/2 lbs. lean ground beef

1 large potato, grated

Beat egg and water until very well-blended

Procedure:

Roll out dough and cut into 2-inch circles. Use 1/2 tsp. filling per round.

Fold and seal. Brush with egg mixture. Prick the top with a fork to allow steam to escape. Bake on cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan to wire racks to cool.

Can be served with sauces of choice or brown gravy.

These freeze very well. Just remove from freezer and microwave at a low temperature until hot.

I have substituted cooked shredded chicken and chopped stir-fry vegetables for the filling. Very good with hot mustard or sweet and sour sauce. — A Faithful Reader, via e-mail.

Dear Faithful: What a wonderful recipe! I'm positive this is one recipe that readers will try and save.

Dear Joyce: I found this recipe years ago and thought others might like it.

I'm going to make it for Valentine's Day this year.

Creme de menthe cake

Prepare 1 pkg. white cake mix according to package instructions. Then add 3 tbsp. creme de menthe.

Bake as directed. Let cake cool and top with 1 jar hot fudge sauce.

Then mix 1 large carton non-dairy whipped topping with 3 tbsp. creme de menthe and frost cake with it. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Can top with chocolate curls if wish.

I know this involves a trip to the liquor store, but it's worth it. — Marcy, Billings.

Dear Marcy: I guess you could make either a layer or a single cake pan-sized cake with your recipe. Sounds like fun with not much work needed. Thank you.
