Do you know how to recognize the conditions for an avalanche? Learn this and more when the Friends of the Avalanche Center offer a basic avalanche awareness workshop at The Base Camp tonight at 6:30. Admission is free.

Topics covered will include avalanche terrain recognition, the effect weather has on avalanche hazards, the development of the mountain snowpack, decision-making skills and basic search-and-rescue procedures.

The seminar will be led by Jay Pape, Friends of the Avalanche Center board member and Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center educator. There will be a raffle with prizes including a Backcountry Access beacon, Black Diamond probe and Black Diamond shovel. All proceeds from the raffle go to the Avalanche Center.
