Cross-country skiing guiding and outfitting opportunities are being offered on a portion of the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest.

The Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest is soliciting applications from interested outfitters and guides to provide services on the Belt Creek–White Sulphur Springs and the Judith–Musselshell ranger districts, known collectively as the Jefferson Division.

The Forest Service intends to authorize three new special use permits for outfitters and guides providing a variety of services in the area, including snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and skiing.

A document outlining available outfitter and guide opportunities, as well as an application packet and information on how to apply for a permit, is available online at bit.ly/HLC-OutfitterGuide.

Interested parties may submit applications for the following outfitter and guide opportunities:

• 250-400 service days* for winter snowmobile outfitting and guiding in the Little Belt and Castle mountain ranges. Approximate use dates are from Dec. 1 through April 15. No overnight camping. Use is limited to existing trails and areas currently open to such use. Guided trips would be limited to a max group size of 10, including guides.

• 250-400 service days* for backcountry skiing, touring, snowshoeing, and winter outfitting and guiding in the Little Belt, Little Snowy, Big Snowy, Highwood, Castle, and Crazy mountain ranges. Approximate use dates are from Dec. 1 through April 15. A temporary warming yurt can be erected and taken down each season. Silvercrest ski winter recreation area would not be available. No overnight camping. Use is limited to existing trails and areas currently open to such use.

• 250-400 service days* for nonconsumptive summer/fall outfitting and guiding in the Little Belt, Little Snowy, Big Snowy, Highwood, Castle, and Crazy mountain ranges. Approximate use dates are from June 15 through Dec. 1. No overnight camping. Use is limited to existing roads and trails and areas currently open to such use. Mountain bike use would not be considered in the Big Snowy Mountain Range. Hunting and fishing outfitting will not be considered.

*The Authorized Officer has discretion for issuing the amount of service days.
