JACKSON — Catching a lake trout in Jackson Lake could net a lucky fisherman $25 from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.
Last month the department set gill nets on known lake trout spawning areas on Jackson Lake. Biologists netted 44 lake trout ranging from 3 pounds to 29 pounds.
The goal of the program is to collect data on lake trout.
The netted trout were measured, weighed and released. Each trout now carries a tag with a unique identification number. Anglers who catch one of those tagged fish can report the length, weight and tag number to Game and Fish and get a $25 reward.
Game and Fish says the fish can be released and the tag doesn't have to be removed for a fisherman to collect the reward.
