Skyview High gym playable despite weekend deluge

A roof leak over the weekend left the gym floor at Skyview High covered in water.

But it wasn't enough to make it unusable.

"It will be playable for the Big Sky Games," said Deb Black, Skyview's principal.

The Big Sky State Games uses the gym for martial arts and dance competitions, as well as volleyball games.

Black said some of the boards on the floor will need to be replaced but that damage was such it could wait until next summer.

The roof at the high school is under repair. Rain, wind and hail did $1.3 million in damage during the 2010 tornado.

Crews this summer have begun replacing and repairing whole sections of the roof and laying down a temporary cover until the roof is reinstalled.

SD2 officials believe it was one of these covers that blew off over the weekend, leaving the roof exposed to the elements and allowing water to leak through onto the gym floor.

The roof was insured, but the replacement work going on is part of 2010's $12 million federal bond-funded projects. Once the project is completed, the district and its insurance company will work out the reimbursement.
