A 20-year-old Billings man has pleaded guilty to rape.
Lonnie Bruce Shield Jr. pleaded guilty to sexual intercourse without consent. A plea agreement calls for a recommendation of 15 years to the Department of Corrections, with 12 suspended, and completion of sex offender treatment.
The crime is typically punishable by imprisonment for at least four years, with a maximum of 100 years, but the judge can order a sentence outside of that range if an exception applies. The plea agreement did not identify a possible exception, and the Yellowstone County Attorney's Office did not immediately return a call seeking clarification.
Shield had sex with a teen who had come to his house after running away, according to charges. He did so despite her telling him no, charges state. The two had sex multiple times, including after Shield learned the teen was 14, charges state.
The legal age of consent in Montana is 16.
Sentencing has been set for Dec. 18.
