A 19-year-old pleaded not guilty Thursday to a count of felony sexual assault, alleging that he had sexual contact with a 6-year-old girl in Laurel two weekends ago.
On June 9, woman went to Laurel police and reported that Harlan Timothy Hinkle molested her daughter, according to charging documents. The woman reported her daughter had told a friend that Hinkle touched her “private area.”
An officer spoke with Hinkle, who initially said he didn’t do anything wrong, but that he “always” gets accused of doing wrong. He went on to admit the sexual contact, charging documents state.
The alleged victim spoke with investigators and said that Hinkle came into a room where she was sleeping at a residence on East Eighth Street in Laurel and undressed her and touched her either late June 7 or early June 8.
District Judge Mary Jane McCalla Knisely continued Hinkle’s bond at $30,000.
