Bozeman writer sets Billings read Stanley Gordon West, a Bozeman author, will give a free public reading at 7 p.m. Friday in Billings.

Writer's Voice of the Billings Family YMCA is presenting his appearance at Barnes & Noble.

West's latest work, "Growing An Inch," is final book of a trilogy set in St. Paul/Minneapolis in 1949. Earlier installments were "Until They Bring the Streetcars Back" and "Finding Laura Buggs."

The books take place at the same time and share a setting and many characters, but are different tales told from different points of view.

Born in St. Paul, West attended Macalester College and the University of Minnesota. He moved to Montana from the Midwest in 1964.

Among his earlier novels are "Blind Your Ponies" and "Amos: To Ride a Dead Horse." "Amos" was made into an Emmy-nominated CBS "Movie of the Week" with Elizabeth Montgomery, Dorothy McGuire and Kirk Douglas.
