Events and announcements
Statewide push on to reach 1 book The Montana Center for the Book, in partnership with Montana State Library, Montana Public Radio, Yellowstone Public Radio, University of Nebraska Press and other organizations, has announced the first One Book Montana program.
The One Book program invites all Montanans to read the classic novel "Winter Wheat" by Mildred Walker, during the spring, summer and fall. MCB will provide reading and discussion guides; suggestions for library, school and book group projects; and opportunities for reader comments and other tools on its Web site at www.montanabook.org/onebook.htm.
A limited number of "Winter Wheat" copies will be available from MCB for short-term loans to book groups. For more information call 243-6022 in Missoula or (800) 624-6001 across Montana.
Published in 1944, "Winter Wheat" is the story of Ellen Webb, who lives in the dryland wheat country of central Montana during the early 1940s.
In late summer, Montana Public Radio and Yellowstone Public Radio will feature on-air readings of the novel, panels and call-in discussion programs. The Sept. 18-20 Montana Festival of the Book in Missoula also will feature sessions devoted to the novel and the One Book program.
MCB is a program of the Montana Committee for the Humanities, Montana's affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
