'Unabomb' writer plans area readings Livingston writer Alston Chase will make two Writer's Voice of the Billings Family YMCA readings this week.
Chase's latest work is "Harvard and the Unabomber: The Education of an American Terrorist." The book looks at the life of serial killer Ted Kaczynski, who was finally captured in a cabin in a remote area of Montana.
The work examines the conditions that fed Kaczynski's alienation and finds that today's war on terrorism may only heighten those factors.
A former philosophy professor, Chase has degrees from Harvard, Oxford and Princeton and has lectured at many universities. He also wrote "Playing God in Yellowstone" and "In a Dark Wood."
Chase will give free public talks at 7 p.m. Monday at Rumours Restaurant in Livingston and 7 p.m. Wednesday in Montana State University-Billings' Cisel Recital Hall. Yellowstone Public Radio will broadcast the Billings talk live.
