Adult Protective Services, a state program to protect elderly and disabled adults at risk for abuse, neglect or exploitation, has a Christmas fund to take individual or community donations.
The fund is used to help APS clients with emergency supplies for homeless individuals, winter clothing, medication co-pays, food costs, haircuts and other items.
To donate, call APS at 655-7640.
Child and Family Services, a state agency that protects children who are abandoned, dependent, neglected or abused, also has a Christmas fund used when no other funds are available.
In the past, money has been used for summer camps, sports fees, emergency medication and many other needs for children and their families.
Each year, children are placed into emergency protective care at Christmas, which leaves little time for foster parents to shop for gifts. The investigative unit for Child Protective Services could use generic gifts or cash donations to help children who are unexpectedly placed in foster care during the holidays. The children range in age from birth to 18.
To donate gifts or contribute to the Christmas fund, call Child and Family Services at 657-3120.
