The Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission is scheduled to set final deer and elk quotas at its July 13 meeting.

Among the proposed final elk quotas are several changes in FWP's Region 4, in north-central Montana. The changes are all increases from the tentative quotas first proposed last winter. The proposed changes by elk hunting district are:

HD 425 an increase from 2 to 5 either-sex permits valid on private land.

HD 441 an increase from 150 to 250 antlerless permits.

HD 447 an increase from 100 to 300 antlerless permits.

HD 455 an increase from 5 to 25 antlerless permits.

Also, FWP is proposing to increase the HD 442 quota from 400 to 500. These elk are part of the Sun River elk herd.

HD 442 is north of the Sun River Wildlife Management Area and the quota numbers are counted at the Augusta check station as hunters stop and check in.
