A proposal to remove hybrid trout from about 21 lakes in the South Fork Flathead River drainage and restock the lakes with native westslope cutthroat trout will be discussed at a meeting from 4 to 8 p.m. on May 22 at the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks headquarters in Kalispell.
The Bonneville Power Administration, Forest Service and FWP will provide information at the meeting. Comments and suggestions to help define a draft environmental impact statement on the project will be taken. Written comments will also be accepted.
The original proposal drew some heat because a helicopter would be used to access two wilderness lakes. Others fear that the poison used to kill hybrid trout would affect other water life.
Written comments and suggestions can be sent to the BPA at: Communications, Bonneville Power Administration - DM-7, P.O. Box 12999, Portland, OR 97212. Or e-mail email@example.com. Comments will be accepted until June 23.
