The theme is "Today's Heroic American Woman."
The contest's seven winners will each receive a $3,000 college scholarship and an expenses-paid trip to National Foundation for Women Legislators' Annual Conference, held from Nov. 16 to 20 in Avon, Colo.
The essay must be received at the NFWL Washington, D.C., offices no later than Aug. 15. The judges will primarily weigh the factors of storytelling, understanding of the Bill of Rights and original insight.
