Accident on West End kills Billings man, 72
LARRY MAYER/Gazette Staff Billings police officers investigate the scene of an accident at 35th Street West and Central Avenue Monday.

A 72-year-old Billings man died Monday from injuries he suffered in a car accident at 35th Street West and Central Avenue.

According to police, the man was heading south on 35th West in a Dodge pickup at noon when his car was hit on the driver's side by a Ford Explorer westbound on Central. Neither vehicle's speed has been established.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to St. Vincent Healthcare, where he later died, police said.

The driver of the Explorer, a 48-year-old Billings woman, also was injured and was taken to St. Vincent. She was listed in stable condition later Monday. Her name was not released.

Both drivers were alone. It was not clear whether they were wearing seat belts, police Sgt. J.R. Chapman said.

Also unclear was whether the man rolled through the stop sign at the intersection, Chapman said.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor. Investigation by Billings police and the Montana Highway Patrol continued Monday, Chapman said.
