HELENA - Former Lt. Gov. Allen Kolstad of Chester has resigned as Montana's Republican national committeeman because of health reasons.
Kolstad submitted his resignation Monday to Republican National Chairman Mike Duncan, state Republican Chairman Erik Iverson and Montana National Committeewoman Betti Hill. It was effective Dec. 15.
Kolstad was elected to the GOP national post in 2004. His term will expire September 2009.
"Serving on the Republican National Committee has been an incredibly positive and rewarding experience," Kolstad's letter said. "I am honored to have served alongside so many committed Republicans from around the country and to have had the privilege to represent Montana on the national level."
The Republican State Central Committee will select an interim replacement for Kolstad at a previously scheduled Republican "winter kickoff" meeting Jan. 25-26 in Billings.
