Cere Demuth, a longtime Washington psychotherapist will give a talk about her debut book, "The Way We Stay: A Memoir of Recovery," Saturday, Nov. 3, from 5:30-7 p.m. at This House of Books, 224 N. Broadway.

Demuth, who grappled with her son's drug addiction for 12 years, revisited her own tumultuous childhood, which included being the daughter of two radical hippy parents who briefly were part of the leftist militant group The Weather Underground. Eventually the family moved to Whidbey Island, where she grew up in an alternative community.

The memoir describes her own journey, as well as how Demuth tried to heal her family and herself from the suffering caused by addiction.
