Snow has been piling up between 7 and 12 inches deep in the immediate Billings area since Wednesday evening, and more appears to be on the way.
One site in the southwest Heights reported 12 inches through 6 a.m. Thursday. Locations at Worden and on the South Side of Billings received 11 inches.
Much of southeast Montana was clobbered by snow that began falling Wednesday. Near Lame Deer, 10 inches was reported as of 8 a.m. Thursday. Hardin had 9 inches. North of Lodge Grass, 6.1 inches was measured.
Twelve miles east of Ashland, 11 inches was recorded.
Weather observers in Musselshell County reported anywhere from 13.5 inches southwest of Roundup to 4.5 inches southeast of town. Rosebud County totals ranged from 12 inches 20 miles east-southeast of Colstrip to 3 inches near Forsyth.
A few areas escaped the heavy snow. Near Cooke City, the total as of 7 a.m. was 4.3 inches and southeast of Livingston, just 0.5 inch was measured. Red Lodge got just a trace.
