BOZEMAN — Shirley Marie (Haas) Schultz, born March 30, 1929, died on Jan. 10, 2019 in Bozeman. She was born in Friend, Nebraska, to John J. and Rose Kovar Haas, the sixth of seven children. After completing high school, Shirley taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Nebraska for a number of years. She married Clifford H. Schultz on June 25, 1950, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, where she remained a lifelong member.
Her early married life was filled with raising her children and mentoring them, and, in 1969, she earned her teaching degree from Mary College in Bismarck, North Dakota. After moving to Billings in 1971, she primarily taught second grade in the Billings Public Schools for over 20 years, mostly at Poly Drive Elementary School. She retired in 1991 and was a great positive influence on her children and grandchildren. She was a faithful Christian with a servant heart who served in numerous capacities at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.
Preceding her in death was her loving husband, Cliff, and her six brothers and sisters: Irene, Don, Charles, Dorothy, Betty and Dallas.
She is survived by her three children, Duane (Lindy) Schultz, Jean (Bob) Snyder and Mark (Beth) Schultz; as well as nine grandchildren, Michael (Natasha) Snyder, Jennifer (Peter) Röpke, Erin (Peter) Nix, Audrey (Charlie) Cromwell, Natalie (Dave) Middleton, Neil (Kim) Schultz, Stephen (Bonnie) Schultz, Brenda (Garen) Pay and Andrea Schultz; as well as great-grandchildren, Tommy, Bodhi, Cacilie Luise, Rose, Connor, Annabeth, Isaiah, Charlie, Sidney, Naomi, and baby-on-the-way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a great inspiration and help to her family, which meant the world to her. She leaves behind many great friends and relatives and will be greatly missed. Her confirmation verse is true! “Be thou faithful unto death and I will give you a Crown of Life.” (Rev. 2:10)
