First Avenue South crash

Billings Police officers investigate a crash on First Avenue South near the intersection of South 37th Street on Monday night. A section of First Avenue South was closed at the crash, as well as a block at South 31st Street where a power pole was hit.

A man driving a 1999 Ford pickup was taken by ambulance to the hospital Monday night after he drove through a power pole on First Avenue South and crashed into a grain bin.

The wreck happened around 8:30 p.m. and stretched along multiple blocks of First Avenue South. The power pole, which lay strewn and broken across the road, was near the intersection with South 31st Street; Billings police diverted traffic from the road.

The driver, who was driving west on First Avenue, came to a stop between South 36th and South 37th streets after he jumped the curb, missed another power pole and struck a grain bin.

Officers were investigating the wreck and had few details. A woman who saw the truck driving down First Avenue told officers she watched it nearly hit another car. She said other vehicles swerved to get out of its way.
